Hope Jamie/Jamie get into the main draw; quite a few of those singles guys might want a place in the doubles.
:)
That would be good - here's hoping:)

Let's hope they make it, would be great!
Linda

They're not in the draw. So no dashing off to Gstaad, then. So are they playing a challenger?
JAMES4579
25-07-2009, 06:22 PM
oh so disappointing! Draws for the challengers don't seem to up yet but hopefully they are playing somewhere.
Linda
25-07-2009, 09:18 PM
Just seen from the homepage that they are playing Umag. Didn't realise they were on the list for that one as well.
JAMES4579
25-07-2009, 09:49 PM
They're playing Dabul and Roitman in round 1 and if they come through could play the top seeds Cermak and Mertinak.
Sallydaisy

At least they've got into a tournament. I've added the basic tourney details to the 2nd post, changed the thread title and will put up doubles draw later.
Umag is quite a 'tourist' place - beaches etc - so they can top up their tans whilst they're out there.

Wonder why he picked clay again? It is his weakest surface.
Linda

There will be no play in Umag tomorrow.
Umag website (http://www.croatiaopen.hr/daily-news/aktualno/ponedjeljak-277---otkazani-mecevi.aspx)
Google translation (I can't find an English version on the website):
Because of the national day of mourning mečevi be deferred to Tuesday, 28.7.
Tickets purchased for Monday apply for deferred mečeve

I found 2 additional bits of info. from MTF:
Due to national mourning day, all matches are postponed untill Tuesday, July 28th.
All tickets bought for Monday matches are valid for Tuesday.
There will be no matches tomorrow since it's the day of sadness because of the train crash that happened
I've posted the full doubles draw here. (http://www.jamiemurray.org/forum/showpost.php?p=56032&postcount=2)

I think we should record the reason for the national mourning -.
Our condolences to the families/friends of the 6 who lost their lives, and best wishes for good recoveries to all who were injured.
"Zagreb. A day of national mourning will be declared in Croatia on Monday because of the serious train crash, which claimed the life of six people and injured 55, Croatian HRT television announced.
The hospital in the city of Split identified all victims. A Spanish and a French citizen are among the dead. 44 Croats, three French nationals, two Australians and one citizen from Sweden, Britain, Serbia, Spain, Pakistan and Slovenia each were injured."

Wonder why he picked clay again? It is his weakest surface.
I'm perplexed too. Surely he would have been better off going to the hard courts challengers in North America.

Well, the Jamie's are not playing tomorrow!
Here (http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2009/439/op.pdf) is the Order of Play for Umag.
Amazing to see Nole playing doubles here - yet he's not in the main draw?
He partners Marko Djokovic against the Italian pairing of Fognini/Starace.

Aren't Nole and Marko brothers?
Sallydaisy
27-07-2009, 06:54 PM
Yes!!! So, it's not unusual in that sense.
I think the times they've played doubles before though have been when Nole has been in the Singles as well.
Davydenko is the top seed in the Singles here in Umag.
Linda
27-07-2009, 06:54 PM
Yes - I suppose Nole is helping his brother out by playing dubs with him.
I'm perplexed too. Surely he would have been better off going to the hard courts challengers in North America.
I suspect with their current combined rating, they can't get in... and it's better to have SOME play than nothing... but yeah - get to the hardcourts soon Jamie.
Wonder who he'll be partnering at USO...
Allan
28-07-2009, 11:14 AM
Wonder who he'll be partnering at USO...If anyone it'll need to be Andy as he wont get in with anyone else.
Linda
28-07-2009, 11:24 AM
I'm sure Andy wouldn't be interested in playing more that one or two rounds of doubles at most at USO - he's got the singles title in his sights!
Surely Jamie will be able to get into the USO - the draw is bigger than for ordinary tournies? And he will still be able to get into the mixed at USO, won't he?
Sallydaisy
28-07-2009, 11:31 AM
The doubles at the Slams are 64 draws so it could well rule out Jamie unless he partnered a really high ranked player.
I doubt he'll get into Mixed.... that's why he sent Liezel off just before sign in to partner someone else.
Ah well.
World Team Tennis beckons, methinks!
I think Mens Doubles at the US Open is best of three, which would make it possible for Jamie and Andy to play together on alternate days to the singles. Andy could just treat it like a practice session and any success would be really great for Jamie. I'd just love it if they could play together, and if the tv companies could get over themselves and let us watch!!!

Matches are still being finished in Umag (must be under floodlights 'cos it's now 23.49 out there) so the OOP for tomorrow has not been released.
Nole and Marko Djokovic were knocked out by Fognini/Starace.............

their opponents played singles yesterday, and both lost in straight sets.
so what? - the opponents have had a run on the court, OR they've got tired;
they really need to play well in dbs OR they will lose early and head for the beach/the airport
I always think that when opponents have just plumbed out of the singles, they seem more driven in dubs. Bah! i say put sand in their shoes to give them an incentive to head for the beach early... or y'know... blisters on their feet...
Go Jamies-Squared

Sallydaisy
29-07-2009, 02:40 PM
I know - especially when they're not doing so well.
Serving now to stay in the first set at *1-5.
Delgy serving I think 'cos it showed Jamie Murray as serving an Ace in their last service game.
Hi Sally - Just got back in from trimming some heathers to find our boys are down 1-5:cry: So depressing, Am off to do some more trimming while the weather is good, but I will probably be back soon as I'm running out of energy!!!! Come on the Jamies:thumbup:
Sallydaisy
29-07-2009, 02:45 PM
Can you be cheering under your breath whilst trimming??? They surely need something to help them along.
Neither of them held serve in that first set - hope they can hang on in and try to take the 2nd.

well, disappointing.
first serve% was rubbish, and i think jamie especially needs to improve his ability to hold serve.
does he prefer to be the receiver and 'poach', covering the net?
Sallydaisy

Yes, it is disappointing and a bit frustrating, certainly chances to get back in the match but Jamie and Delgy couldn't quite take them, but they did try and ffight back!:cry::cry: We knew it was likely to be a tough though. Wonder if a strong partner will emerge for Jamie in the hard court seeason. Hope you will feel better soon Ros and Linda!
It was a bit of an unplanned session last night - but added to that - I seem to have discovered the hard way that whole prawns also don't agree with me... I have had chronic heartburn all day (not something I normally get with a hangover!) and I could only manage half a plate of mash and gravy for dinner. Last time I had this was when a stray prawn in one of those japanese griddle restauarants on a cruise found it's way to my food... so I ate it. And was in agony all that night.
bah!
Peppermint tea and gaviscon instead of Horlicks this evening.
Bah!

well, i hope this partnership will continue; no way is a 'stronger player' going to want to take Jamie Murray on board, at the moment JM is a liability. he served for the set, and dropped it, and he dropped his serve more often throughout the match than did JD. partnerships need to worked on. matches need to be assessed, preferably with the coach or trusted 3rd party, and faults or weaknesses identified and cured. how can JM and JD do this work?
losing is depressing, but, you know, 'starting here, starting now', how to make sure we don't lose again?
He needs to really work hard with Louis... he'd made such an impact to Jamie's career and then when Louis was co-opted into Andy's team - Jamie's progress really started to slide...
He came back briefly... and dammit - I've SEEN him dig deep and come up with the goods... so...
I think right now - Jamie D IS his best hope of a longer running partnership - and in an off-forum chat, perhaps Jamie should look for a place in World Team Tennis to go out and have some FUN out there too... His serve has been pretty weak - and he ought to really focus on that I think...
And I don't really know what Jamie D is like as a returner... Jamie is at his best when he can poach at the net... but to do that he needs some good solid returning to back him up!
harriet
30-07-2009, 08:19 PM
hi RFS, i agree better to keep the present partnership going, and jointly learn how to improve.
i didn't think louis cayer played much part in andy's team - is andy footing part of the costs or something?
certainly for the jamies working with a coach now wd be a good idea, esp JM's serve
Allan
30-07-2009, 09:49 PM
The last I knew, Louis Cayer was out in America with Hutchins and before that he was in Manchester with Flemski.
